10,000 Chinese-Japanese Characters, J.L. Pierson [Jan Lodewijk Pierson]
First Edition of this important and comprehensive dictionary, containing "all the living characters now used in Japan." With the original four page addendum laid in. All characters had to be engraved for this edition, a work which was done by Mr. Nakagawa of The Eastern Press Ltd., Reading, England. The very close work involved so seriously affected his eyesight that the last five sheets had to be printed by Brill in Leiden.
Leiden, Holland: E. J. Brill & Co., 1926. Publisher's original cloth, spine lettered in gilt; pp. xi, [9], 746. In very good condition. Binding remains sturdy and square, shelfwear to board extremities with corners a touch frayed, small tear at spine crown, rubbing to boards with a scratch to rear board. Internally clean.
