Admiral Sir James Dundas Autograph Letter Signed
A succinct letter by Admiral Sir James Dundas, written while using mourning paper, dated September 9th, 1847. Dundas confirms details of a naval service record, noting that an officer had remained abroad “2 years and 2 months” after departing England in March 1845, and concluding that the record could not be long delayed. Boldly signed at the close.
Admiral Dundas (1785-1862) enjoyed a long and distinguished career, serving during the Napoleonic Wars and later commanding the Mediterranean Fleet during the Crimean War. Letters in his hand are not common on the market, particularly those on mourning paper.
