First edition, earliest state of the text, with the Scribner seal on the copyright page and clear, unbattered type on pages 38, 90, and 248. Fitzgerald's third collection of short fiction, published the year after The Great Gatsby and gathering nine stories, including “The Rich Boy,” “Winter Dreams,” and “Absolution.” Published in February 1926, the collection's initial printing comprised 10,100 copies and was quickly exhausted.

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1926. Octavo; [viii], 267, [1] pages. Publisher's dark blue-green cloth, title stamped in blind on the front board and spine lettered in gilt; without dust jacket. A good, worn but substantially intact copy: the cloth dampstained and unevenly discolored, with rubbing and fraying at the spine ends and corners, and the spine gilt largely effaced. The binding is sprung, and the inner hinges are cracked and overopened, exposing the binder's mull, though the boards and text block remain attached. Pages toned, with occasional small spots to the preliminaries, otherwise clean.
