First American edition, first printing of Orwell's classic satirical allegory, one of the most important books of the twentieth century. In the price-intact first state dust jacket, priced at $1.75 correctly lacking the "Printed in the USA" statement to the rear flap.

New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1946. Publisher's original black cloth boards, spine lettered in gilt; pp. (iv), 118. A near fine copy in a very good dust jacket. Binding sturdy, minimal wear to boards with a slight lean to spine. Internally clean with no markings. Jacket shows light shelfwear with a chip to spine crown and a couple closed tears, protected in archival mylar.
