First edition, first printing of Figes' first novel, a thinly disguised autobiographical account of the breakup of a marriage and the protagonist’s subsequent struggle to rebuild her world, published about the time of the author’s own divorce from George Figes.

Binding remains tight and sturdy, minimal wear with a touch of foxing to text block edges. Internally clean. Jacket shows light shelfwear with a small closed tear to front panel, a bit of toning to spine, tape reinforcement to verso of spine crown, protected in archival mylar. Scarce.
